November Is Coming
We have an election in November. And if you’re sitting there with a knot in your stomach — not sure what you believe anymore, not sure who you can even talk to about it — you are not alone. The road ahead looks worse than you care to imagine and every weeks seems like a collision course to the voting booth.
But here’s the thing. You cannot walk into that voting booth carrying a fog. You cannot have the conversations you need to have with your friends and family if you haven’t sorted out what’s in your own head first.
And I see people avoiding it. I see them scrolling past it. Changing the subject at dinner. Pretending the questions will just go away.
They won’t. November is coming whether you’re ready or not. The longer you stay in this political lane, the further you feel from your true self. Those personal values and morals are starting to pull at you. It started in your stomach and is now hurting your soul.
Faith is the topic today. Any faith. All faiths. Faith in ourselves first. The MAGA Exit is 95 days away, are you going to pivot out?
So today I’m giving you one drill. One exercise. It’s simple. But do not confuse simple with easy.
Write it down. Name it. Make the list. Because you cannot fix what you can’t name — and you cannot name what you refuse to look at.
THE SCIENCE — Pennebaker’s Test
- University of Texas. Professor James Pennebaker runs an experiment.
He brings students into a lab. One group writes about ordinary things. The other group writes about the worst thing that ever happened to them. Fifteen minutes. Four days in a row.
The students who wrote about their trauma had improved immune function. Fewer doctor visits. Lower blood pressure. Their bodies got healthier.
Not because they “got it off their chest.” Writing forces structure. You can’t write without organizing. And organizing what happened to you — putting it in order, putting it in words — is the first step toward understanding it.
The students who improved most were the ones who, by day four, had stopped writing fragments and started writing a story. “This happened. Which led to this. Which made me feel this.”
Chaos became narrative. And once it’s a narrative — you can change the ending.
THE MONK — Luther’s ACTION
- Martin Luther watches the Church sell indulgences — pay money, sins forgiven. Poor people handing over what they don’t have for a piece of paper.
He doesn’t start a war. He doesn’t storm Rome. He writes a list. Ninety-five points. He nails it to the church door — the community bulletin board.
Someone translates it from academic Latin into everyday German. The printing press — the social media of its time — spreads it across Europe in weeks.
The Church cannot stop it. The questions are out.
Luther didn’t raise an army. He wrote a list of things he could no longer pretend not to see.
That’s the drill. Name it. Write it. Put it where people can read it.
THE RAPPER — Jay-Z Has Modern ISSUES
- Jay-Z. “99 Problems.” Second verse. He gets pulled over. The officer asks to search the car.
Jay-Z doesn’t fight. Doesn’t run. He says: “Well, my glove compartment is locked, so is the trunk in the back. And I know my rights, so you gon’ need a warrant for that.”
That line is now taught in law schools. A law professor wrote an entire journal article on it.
Because Jay-Z did what most people never do when someone with authority is asking questions. He knew the rules. He named them out loud. That is inquiry as self-defense.
THE LESSON — Do the Work Before November
Here’s the connection. Luther wrote ninety-five. Jay-Z named ninety-nine.
The quantity matters. The first ten are easy — those are the things you’ve already said out loud. The next twenty are harder. By the time you get to fifty, you’re writing things you didn’t even know you knew.
That’s where the change happens. The story you’ve been telling yourself starts to crack. The truth starts to show through.
You have to do this work now. Before the conversations. Before the arguments at the table. Before November. If you walk into that election still carrying a fog — you’re going to make decisions from a place of confusion. And confusion is not a strategy.
So make your list. Sort out what you actually believe. Then go talk to your friends and family from a place of clarity, not panic.
